🎉 Getting ready for Eid al-Fitr

Eid is the celebration at the end of Ramadan. Here is what Muslims do on that happy day.

  1. 1

    Say the takbir

From the night before Eid until the prayer, Muslims say the takbir out loud to praise Allah. Say it on the way to the mosque.

    Source: Al-Baqarah 2:185 · Ibn Abi Shaybah

  2. 2

    Give Zakat al-Fitr

Each family gives a little food or money for every person, before the Eid prayer, so that poor families can celebrate too.

  3. 3

    Get ready

Take a bath, put on your best clothes and a nice smell. Eid is a day to look clean and happy.

  4. 4

    Eat dates first

On Eid al-Fitr, the Prophet ﷺ ate a few dates, an odd number, before going to the prayer.

  5. 5

    Go to the Eid prayer

Everyone comes to the Eid prayer, even the little ones. Take one road there and another road back, like the Prophet ﷺ did.

  6. 6

    Greet everyone

Say Eid Mubarak, or the greeting of the Companions: may Allah accept from us and from you.

    تَقَبَّلَ اللَّهُ مِنَّا وَمِنْكُمْ

    Taqabbala Allahu minna wa minkum

  7. 7

    Share and visit

Visit family and neighbours, share sweets and gifts, and make sure no child is left out of the joy.

  8. 8

    Make an Eid card

Fold a sheet of paper, draw a crescent moon, a lantern and stars, and write Eid Mubarak inside for someone you love.

Print the calendar

A page with the 30 good deeds and a box to tick each day, to put on the fridge.

Tip for parents: read the good deed together at suhoor or iftar, and let your child tick the box themselves.
