Aisha Islamic Center

A safe community

Everyone who walks through our doors, children, youth, sisters, brothers and elders, deserves to feel safe, respected and welcome. This page explains what we commit to and how to speak up.

Our commitment

Aisha Islamic Center is a place of worship and learning. We do not tolerate harassment, abuse, bullying, discrimination or any behavior that makes someone feel unsafe, whoever is responsible.

Every volunteer, teacher and team member is expected to treat others with the adab (manners) taught by our Prophet, peace be upon him.

Children and youth

Children are never left alone with a single adult in a closed room during a program. Classes and activities take place in open or shared spaces whenever possible.

Parents and guardians are asked to register their children for programs, to tell us about any allergy or medical need, and to pick them up on time.

Anyone who works regularly with children is expected to go through the screening and training the board decides on.

Photos and recordings

We ask for consent before publishing a photo or video in which a child or an identifiable person appears. If you would rather not appear, tell the person taking the photos and we will respect that.

If you see or experience something wrong

In an emergency, call 911 first.

For any other concern, write to [email protected] or call 514-360-3133, or speak to a member of the team or the imam in person. You can ask that your name be kept confidential.

Every report is taken seriously, handled with discretion and shared only with the people who need to act on it. Nobody will be penalized for reporting in good faith.
