Read the story
1. Ibrahim (peace be upon him) lived among people who made idols out of stone and wood and prayed to them. Ibrahim knew that statues cannot hear, see or help anyone.
2. One night, Ibrahim showed his people a bright star and said: this is my lord? But the star disappeared. Then the moon came out, and it set too. In the morning, the big sun rose, and in the evening it set as well.
3. Ibrahim said: I do not love things that disappear (Al-An'am 6:76). The true Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and the earth, and He never disappears. Ibrahim wanted his people to think, too.
4. One day, while the people were away, Ibrahim broke the idols, all except the biggest one. When they came back, he said: ask them who did it, if they can speak! The people knew the idols could not speak.
5. The people became very angry and lit an enormous fire. They threw Ibrahim into it. But Allah said: O fire, be coolness and safety for Ibrahim (Al-Anbiya 21:69). The fire did not hurt him at all!
6. Years later, Ibrahim went to the valley of Makkah, a dry place with rocks and sand. There, his son Ismail (peace be upon him) grew up.
7. Allah told Ibrahim to build a house for worshipping Allah. Ibrahim and Ismail raised the walls of the Kaaba together, stone by stone. As they worked, they prayed: Our Lord, accept this from us. You are the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing (Al-Baqarah 2:127).
