Read the story
1. The people of Madyan lived in a busy town with a big market. Allah had given them a lot: food, money and good things to sell.
2. But in the market, they cheated. When they sold wheat or dates, they gave people a little less than they had paid for. They worshipped others besides Allah, too.
3. Allah sent them Shuayb (peace be upon him), one of their brothers. He said: worship Allah alone. And O my people, give full measure and full weight, with fairness. Do not cheat people out of what is theirs (Hud 11:85).
4. Shuayb told them: what Allah leaves you, earned honestly, is better for you, if you are believers (Hud 11:86). A little that is honest is better than a lot that is stolen.
5. The people laughed at him: does your prayer tell you that we must leave the gods of our fathers, and that we cannot do what we want with our money? Shuayb answered kindly: I only want to make things better, as much as I can. My success comes only from Allah (Hud 11:88).
6. Shuayb kept warning them for a long time, but most of them did not change. Then Allah's command came: a mighty sound and the earth shook, and the people who kept cheating and refusing were gone.
7. Allah saved Shuayb and the people who believed with him, out of His mercy (Hud 11:94). They stayed honest and grateful to Allah.
